| Here's a little history about our H.O. slot car race club, possibly the oldest in the world. After a few friends got together in 1969 in the small town of Sandoval Illinois and raced there new T-Jet H.O. scale slot cars against each other just for fun, the idea of a competitive league was born. In 1970, one of those friends, Don Gramlick, just a teenager organized UNITED TRACKS AUTO CLUB. In the early days it was Gramlick, the Oehmke boys, Mitch and Chris, along with Blake Hyde, John Busscher and Gaylord Quick just to name a few. Each month, they would go from one guys house to the next, bringing along any track and pins they had (hince the name United Tracks) and proceed to set up the longest oval tracks they could fit in the living room (watch out for the cat!) Drivers would qualify 5 laps and the fastest time would automatically make the feature. The other cars would be placed in lines with the slowest times pitted against each other, the winners would move up to race the next cars and so on until the Feature field was set. UTACs first Division was called Late Model Stock Cars(TJets). As newer faster cars were produced, they would take over the Late Model class and new classes would be started for some of the fallen, such as Sportsman for the TJets and Modified for the Magna Tractions. These two classes are still run today in UTAC. In 1977 the club began holding most of its events at the local Community Center building in Sandoval, this would continue for many years. Today UTAC continues to support the newest cars especially those available in racesets. We believe a raceset for Christmas is still the best present a kid can recieve. We welcome all, to come try some old fashion racing... with a little modern twist. And if your fortunate enough to win a UTAC race.. Well, we think its quite an accomplishment. Hope to see ya at the track and Good Luck, UTAC Pres. Scott Hanks |
